Fisherman's Plea

Happy Valentine's Day!

In all the selkie stories I've ever read, I always thought that the fisherman fellow truly did love the seal-woman, and wanted her to stay for more than just marital duty reasons. There are varrying endings to the original tale of the fisherman who took a selkie wife, but in all three, the poor fisherman never got to try and talk the selkie woman into staying. It made me so sad that he didn't at least get to try.

So here he is, pleading with his seal-woman wife, asking her to stay :cries:

Hey! More blue stuff! :D Also, if lady butts offend folks, I can put the warning on it.

What a wonderful take on the traditional selkie legend! Usually, the selkie bride gets herself gone before the husband comes home, but it's nice to think of him maybe catching up to her and talking it out. Up to this point, he's had all the power; now she has it. Maybe, instead of using that power to leave, instead she uses it to stay and work out a compromise where they both have power -- where she can go to sea and be herself, but also return home from time to time and be a wife and mother. In those legends, I never understood why seal-or-human had to be an all-or-nothing thing.
